Monday?!

Yes my friends, it is Monday! It isn't Wednesday! Can you believe it? The blogger woman is blogging on a Monday! Whoo Hoo! What does that mean? It means that Mrs. Oz has managed to catch up on her housework (don't fall over!), and there is but 4 things left in the laundry room to run through (an 1/8th of a load!)...and that life is hitting its 2006 routine here in Oz Land..finally.....amazing! It has taken a week worth of solid work in the evenings to catch everything up, like 32 loads of laundry, folded and put away, baby clothes that no longer fit passed along to another baby who could use them....floors swept and mopped, floors vacuumed, rooms dusted, beds changed....I can't stand it..the house is soooo clean! So what brought about the "catching up"? Well...the trip to WV for hockey prince last week was taken by Mr. Oz and the Prince only. I did laundry. The late night Wednesday practice....ditto...Mr. Oz and the Prince..the King and I were cleaning....and wonder of wonders....we actually had a home game on Saturday....not having to leave town for ONE day on the weekend..YEA...which brought about more cleaning and sorting. My house cleaning gene came from my House Cleaning Jean (mom!)...I would rather play with the kids....and I hate picking up constantly.....

The good news is that the King LOVES to clean (believe me I am encouraging it!). As I was vacuuming a room, he was pushing around another (lighter) vacuum loving every minute of it. He actually cried when I turned it off. Plus..he is at that stage where he LOVES to curry favor by doing something that was asked...."King Crazy Cleaner, can you put this piece of paper in the garbage" elicits an excited squeal...and off he goes to the garbage can. Once in the garbage, King I am so Proud of Me cries "YEA!" and claps. Oh that it would be the same all through out the house. Sigh...."Prince...can you pick up your breakfast bowl" elicits the usual thirteen-year old "I always have to do everything around here...." (Parents..you know what I am talking about..that true sound of teenage angst at being asked to do something that will take approximately 32 seconds...the angst adds another 60, plus threats of a beatin'!)

This weekend was a fun one (being that for one day we were home!). The Prince actually got to reconnect with some school friends by having them spend the night on Friday night. Three teenage boys seem to be a lot less trouble than 1 sometimes! The Prince was shocked when, on Tuesday evening, I told him "hey, why don't you ask a friend to spend the night on Friday". He sighed and asked me which Hockey friend he should ask (thinking that he had a game at 9:00 a.m. Saturday....so the logic said it had to be a hockey player!). I looked at him and said..how about someone from school. The whooping and hollering began! The next day, there were two friends from school invited....and the Prince was running excited for the rest of the week.

So the Prince had a cheering squad at his game on Saturday. This was a game against our "rival" hockey club here in town...kids that the Prince had played with for years until this year. Parents on both sides, and players on both sides were ready for some serious bloodletting...and it had the potential to get really nasty really fast. The Prince...on the other hand...was ready for a fun game..was ready to show his school chums how the game was really supposed to be played, and ready to have some fun with kids that he has typically played with rather than against. The difference in attitude showed on the ice (and in the stands with Mr. and Mrs. Oz too!). Prince Defenseman played two good, solid games, getting lots of nice hits in the corners (one of which he helped the kid up after the whistle with a cheery grin), lots of nice stick checks, lots of nice dig-ins in front of the net to move people out, and lots of strong play holding the line and getting the puck in deep. His teammates played two games (not solid), took about 14 penalties between the two games (about 7 for the other team including a fighting penalty), and the parents in the stands were calling for the heads of several of the kids on a platter (some of our parents, some of the opposing team parents). Mr. and Mrs. Oz took the Prince Path (having instructed the prince early on in the season as to how to handle it!)...commenting loudly to EACH player on the ice (regardless of their team affiliation) of good shots, good checks, dicey checks (oh "so and so" ("Prince's best friend and teammate)...keep your hands down!")

As a result, after each game, parents from both teams commented on how much the Prince's game has matured, how much he has matured, and how much they enjoyed watching him. Hey...he wasn't the team goon! He was the team sportsman! Playing hard, giving and getting respect! The other result was that parents from both teams were talking to Mr. and Mrs. Oz as well! No hard feelings. One of our parents said to me "You are too gracious sometimes"....to which I kinda looked at him like he had a second head and said "Gracious? This is just a Saturday afternoon kids' hockey game...c'mon....we didn't win or lose a war here". It kinda backed him down (he was one of the parents who thought we should load up our team with players off of our AA team to make sure we "crushed" our opponents!)

One of the kids who spent the night on Friday, stayed again on Saturday night, heading up to Dayton with the Prince and Mr. Oz (again...King I love to Help and Mrs. Oz stayed home!) for two games. The Prince, in front of his friend, again played two solid games; ratcheting 4 assists in the first game and 3 in the second. He really is getting fun to watch! He was blasted (cleanly) at one point by two of their defenders (on a breakaway from the defense position), and his one arm got ratcheted two ways to "Sunday" so to speak. He claimed that it hurt pretty bad at the elbow...but not bad enough to come out of the game. With about 1:30 left in the game, he took another brutal (but clean) hit and dropped to the ice....the elbow was "screamin" in pain at that point (he hit it on the wall..then on the ice on the "landing"). As an aside...my little diplomat did tell each of the three hitters in the good game line that they had nice hits on him (okay......that kinda blew me away!).

When they arrived home...he was favoring the elbow pretty strongly so off we went to Urgent Care. The verdict? A chipped bone in the elbow and a strange growthplate position. The Xrays are on their way to the Radiologist for another viewing, and a call is expected today or tomorrow as to indicate to us what we need to do; the Prince is in a sling until the verdict comes in. Treatment options range from nothing (ie: The chip was already there, and the growth plate is naturally weirdly normal) to surgery to reset the growth plate. Will keep you posted....

So..that about sums up life since last Wednesday, since I last blogged. Sorry..no pics as the ol camera is outta batteries...the rechargeables have been sniped for several King and Prince toys..and I haven't managed to snipe them back.

Oh...by the way...the Oz Blog is a year old! Can you believe it? 1/24/2005 was the starting date..what a year it has been!
