In the vein of "Plumbing on a Saturday Night"

The the vein of plumbing on a Saturday Night (when the stores are closed..and something goes seriously awry, and you can't get any help......) that my big sis and brubah are chatting about over on her blog http://mallardfeet.blogspot.com/2006/08/plumbing-again.html we decided to "wait until the last minute" relative to taking H to the Drs for a physical before he heads out to school on Wednesday.

Took him to the Drs on Tuesday of this past week just to make sure he is "up to snuff" (since the medical community watches baby/toddler development and growth on a far more regular basis than a teenager!) He had had a physical before he went to camp, but since I was sending him out on his way for 9 months of medical care in another region, I thought perhaps he ought to have a final visit with his personal doc.....just being a good "consumer" of health care dontcha know!

H had a chat with his doc about his size and physical differences between him and his peers; to which the doctor indicated that he did appear less "advanced" than others for his age. (Since most have reached or are coming close to their adult height, have facial hair and the like!)

So...one week before camp, we opened up a can o' worms relative to finding out why H seems behind. It could be constitutional (in layman's terms; a late bloomer), or something more hormonal (related to thyroid, pituitary, etc). On Thursday, he had a full hormonal blood panel done, and on Friday he had a Brain MRI to determine if the pituitary is A-OK (of course his mom told him the Dr was really just checking to see if there is any grey matter between his ears..since there doesn't appear to be evidence of it at times).

H pronounced the MRI way cool (picture this..we walk into this place, the first thing the receptionist asks H is "would you like something to drink?" My well-trained son says "No thank you"...and the receptionist replies "are you sure...we have the Dew"...teenage eyes light up....and a minute later he is "Dew in Hand"...then the technician asks "what kind of music do you like?" to which H says "rap, speed metal, classic rock"...and she hands him a set of head phones plugged into his favorite local station. 30-minutes later, we were out the door with a teenager who was saying "that place is awesome". It takes sooooo little!).

So how does this equate to plumbing on a Saturday night? Well...results won't be in until Monday, mid-day at the earliest (for the blood panels, the results from the MRI will be in on Monday a.m., since the Radiologist was reading the scans on his computer as the technician was taking them. The Dr will look at them at 5:00 p.m. (his usual test reading time), then call with the results. If the results indicate anything other than Constitutional...we have ONE count 'em 1 whole day to try to get H into a Pediatric Endocrinologist, and decide what to do before he heads out to school (aka the pipe is broken, the water is off, and the store is closed...and the plumber won't be open for several months!!). That isn't to say if there is a problem that we can't utilize the plumbers back "Home" (T-town....) or in F.W. Indy, but coordination would be ugly...and this Mom would want to be there during the plumbing meetings!!

Kids are fun!

Good luck on the plumbing issue with H and remember, the DKF family can relate! We once moved when K was 8.5 months pregnant and the T1D is always present with C!

Tis only last minute because of the unplanned schooling at HMA! It would have been normally scheduled durning the comming school year anyway when a sports physical would be due.
