Okay JCPS...I get it now.....

In the local newspaper yesterday ( JCPS Not Considering Alternatives) JCPS made several things clear, and made several comments "between the lines" about the Supreme Court Case.

1. Because of "this" court makeup, they just might not win their racial desegregation argument.
2. Banning their way of assigning students would "Erode Diversity"
3. If neighborhood schools were returned approximately 32,000 students would return to neighborhood schools that would become "racially isolated".
4. If schools returned to their "neighborhood", many magnets would have to be closed or moved due to the influx of students from the area surrounding the school that would be returning to the school closest to their home.
5. If their assignment model is struck down, they will consider assigning students based on parental income, rather than returning the schools to their neighborhoods. (61% of elementary students currently qualify for the free lunch program)

Okay, JCPS, I get it now....seriously. If you can't continue the racial desegregation plan, you are going to re-engineer the plan to continue receiving the federal monies you are entitled to under Title I by keeping the majority of your schools Title I. Although seemingly altruistic, it isn't diversity you are looking for....it's money. Simple as that.

And this surprises you somehow? People are fabulous at rationalizing the outcome that comes out in their best interests, money-wise.

In that sense, it's certainly educational.
