T'was a hectic, long, and fruitful day..

(Homage to Charles Schultz) - It was a long and hectic day. A shot rang out. A girl screamed....oh wait....the last two didn't happen!

But it was a long and hectic day that dawned early. The Oz family had made the decision to take the Prince up to his new school and return to Louisville all in one day. The alternative was to drive to Toledo on Tuesday night, wake up and head over to HMS yesterday morning, then drive back after dropping the prince off. So I figured....5 hours Tuesday night, 1.75 hours Wednesday a.m., 5 hours Wednesday night....let's cut 1.75 hours out, and leave in the morning, and return at night. Further, we thought..rather than have the King be road weary, we would take him to daycare and have his GodMother pick him up from school and hang out with him until we got home. (Thanks Auntie Belle!). And..other than being really tired today (which could just be the norm for Mr. and Mrs. Oz too..ya never know!)...the trip went smoothly, as planned.

The Prince assisted in dropping the King off at daycare yesterday morning....which caused the king to cry "Brubby...Brubby...." on our way out the door. T'was good to remind the Prince that he was going to be missed.

The trip up to HMS was rather uneventful, outside of one major accident on the road near Indy that delayed us for about 45 minutes. (Truck on truck...and I tossed up a prayer for the one truck's driver, because it really didn't look like that driver could have made it out safely, let alone alive).

We reached HMS just in time to begin the registration process for those cadets whose last name begins with M-Z. (Hey...I used to be in the FRONT of the alphabet....these latter names always get shafted...tee hee). Went through registration without a hitch, helped Cadet Sparky start to square away his room, attended a parent meeting, then it was "goodbye, I love yous"..and back on the road we went.

The cadet was nervous (had the Shrum bladder and bowels going), excited, and thrilled to be there. He was quick to sign up for all of his interests (German for school, soccer (which had practice last night), the air rifle team, the Choir, being an Acolyte in church, etc.) He was really plugging in as soon as he could. (I wish I would have done that in college....would have made the transition that much easier and I would have been more successful). I think he realizes that the more he has to do..the more friends he makes, and the more time flies!

Mr. and Mrs. Oz actually had it a little easier than we thought in dropping him off. Perhaps it is because of his camp experience, perhaps it is because we have gotten to know the TAC officers through camp, as well as many of his teachers, etc., perhaps it is because you end up seeing them about 1x every three weeks, perhaps it is because he wanted to desperately to go.....who knows... We miss him terribly, but also know that this is his time to shine though (especially academically!) Sigh...14..and becoming a man. When did that happen.

So all and all...t'was a hectic, long and FRUITFUL day.
